While working with BME carers, there are several things to consider in relation to education and schools.

Awareness 

The likelihood is that in every primary school, secondary school and college, there will be a number of young carers. These children’s well-being and personal achievement may be being affected by their practical and emotional responsibilities in the home.

Barriers

Inappropriate levels of caring impact on children’s own emotional and physical health as well as their educational achievement and life chances. 

Policy

Schools have a specific duty to monitor and assess how their policies affect minority ethnic pupils, staff and parents.

There are numerous ways that you can provide support to young carers at your school or place of learning.
